Architecture Without Borders Quebec (AWBQ) is proud to announce that the catalogue of practices, “Architecture + Homelessness: Inclusive Practices for a Supportive City,” is now available in both French and English, opening doors to a wide audience and fostering global conversation on this critical issue.<\/h3>\n

The increase in homelessness in urban areas, exacerbated by the pandemic and the housing, migratory and climatic crises, is a challenge faced by cities worldwide. In such a context, it seems more necessary than ever to study and transform our cities by\u00a0engaging the practice of architecture<\/b>, so that they are more inclusive and supportive of people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis catalogue is part of AWBQ\u2019s commitment to inclusive design and social justice” insists Bruno Demers, Executive Director of AWBQ \u201cBy offering it in English, it aims to facilitate cross-cultural exchange and inspire collaborative efforts on a global scale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Designed to inform and equip design professionals, community organizations and urban development stakeholders, the catalogue provides a portrait of architecture and design practices that have the potential to contribute to the well-being of people experiencing homelessness (PEH). Based on a review of existing literature, the catalog looks at all scales of design, from the city to the object. It lists more than sixty practices grouped into\u00a0five main categories<\/b>\u00a0and illustrated with various inspiring projects.<\/p>\n

A first in Canada, this research is being conducted under the guidance of an interdisciplinary advisory committee of a dozen experts and with the support of several research collaborators. AWBQ would like to salute their essential contribution to the completion of this project, which was made possible thanks to the financial support of the\u00a0Government of Quebec\u00a0and the\u00a0City of Montreal.<\/p>\n

Second edition of the colloquium Architecture + Homelessness<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the context of ongoing research, AWBQ invites you to the\u00a0second edition<\/b>\u00a0of the colloquium Architecture + Homelessness, November 22nd in Montreal. Tackling the topic of\u00a0\u201cInhabiting the city beyond housing\u201d<\/i><\/b>, this day of panels and workshops will foster collective discussion around urban encampments and access to public space.<\/p>\n
